Local elections aren’t boring — they literally decide who’s running the towns we sit in traffic in, shop in, and complain lovingly about on Facebook. Here’s how things shook out across Mecklenburg and Iredell.

Mecklenburg County Highlights

Cornelius

  • Mayor: Denis Bilodeau wins with 44%

  • Commissioners: Michael Osborne, Susan Johnson, Todd Sansbury, Robert Carney & Colin Furcht all secure seats.

Davidson

  • Mayor: Rusty Knox cruises with 96%

  • Commissioners: Autumn Rierson Michael, Tracy Brandon, Steve Justus, Ryan Fay & Connie Wessner elected.

Huntersville

  • Mayor: Christy Clark wins decisively with 65%

  • Commissioners: Jennifer Hunt, Nick Walsh, Edwin Quarles, LaToya Rivers, Scott Coronet & Heather Smallwood elected.

Transportation Sales Tax Referendum

  • Passed: 52% – 48%
    Mecklenburg approved the 1% transit/roads tax.

Iredell County Highlights

Mooresville

  • Mayor: Chris Carney edges out the win with 50%

  • Town Board:

    • At-Large: Gary West wins

    • Ward 3: Frank Owens

    • Ward 4: Dana Tucker

Statesville

  • Mayor: Doug Hendrix leads the field at 31%

  • At-Large Council: Trey Robertson & James Pressly win

  • Ward Races:

    • Ward 2: Kristi Pfeufer lands 97% 

    • Ward 3: Doris Allison wins

    • Ward 5: Four-way race — Tip Nicholson edges it

Troutman

  • Town Council: George Harris, Felina Harris, and Tonya Bartlett elected

Mooresville Graded School Board

  • Greg Whitfield & Rakeem Brawley elected
