Experience history and new beginnings at the grand opening of the newly remodeled Puckett Pottery House, a vibrant new ceramic studio at Cain Center for the Arts. This exciting addition marks a significant milestone in the Center’s continued growth and its commitment to expanding access to hands-on arts experiences in the Lake Norman region.
“We are so happy to give this longstanding ceramics program its permanent home right here on Catawba Avenue at the entrance to Downtown Cornelius. This project continues to cement Cain Center’s commitment to our community, and we can’t wait for all of Lake Norman to experience it,” said Justin Dionne, Executive Director of Cain Center for the Arts.
Part of the Center’s Sculpting the Future initiative, Puckett Pottery House offers a dedicated space for ceramics, where creativity, craftsmanship, and community come together. The remodel of Puckett and Goodrum houses—an adaptive reuse and cultural conservation project—serves as a gateway into downtown Cornelius by continuing the streetscape and style of the 1905 mill houses. This effort preserves local architectural heritage while transforming the spaces into vibrant hubs for arts education and community engagement. The project was made possible through the work of local teams Nicole Perri Architecture and RJK Construction.
The new studio introduces state-of-the-art ceramics facilities with purpose-built space for artists to create, teach, and collaborate, ensuring this foundational art form continues to thrive. A newly activated art courtyard further enhances the campus as a welcoming gateway to Downtown Cornelius, designed for gatherings, performances, and creative placemaking. The project also includes expanded office space in the neighboring historic Goodrum House, along with future space to support the Center’s continued growth and impact.
To celebrate, Cain Center for the Arts will host a week of events open to the public, inviting the community to experience the space firsthand. A variety of programs will be offered, including a dedication and ribbon cutting, ceramics open houses, and interactive drop-in experiences.
