Residents looking for things to do in Lake Norman this weekend will have plenty to enjoy as Symphony in the Park returns to Cornelius on June 20. One of the area’s most anticipated summer events, the annual celebration brings together live music, family activities, local food vendors, fireworks, and a brand-new drone show at Bailey Road Park.
Hosted by Cornelius Parks and Recreation, the free event runs from 6 to 10 p.m. and offers an evening of entertainment for all ages. Families are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets and settle in for a night of music and community fun under the stars.
The evening begins at 6 p.m. with the opening of the gates and KidsZone, featuring inflatables, face painting, children’s activities, and more. Local performer Walter Finley will take the stage from 6:45 to 7:45 p.m., followed by a performance from the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra beginning at 8:30 p.m.
One of the biggest additions to this year’s event is Cornelius Parks and Recreation’s first-ever drone show. The aerial display was added to celebrate the department’s 30th anniversary and America’s upcoming 250th anniversary. Attendees can expect a unique light show featuring patriotic imagery and community-inspired designs before the evening concludes with a fireworks display.
Food will be available throughout the event from a variety of local vendors serving barbecue, sandwiches, desserts, ice cream, donuts, and other festival favorites. Adults can also enjoy selections from local breweries and wineries participating in the event.
Parking is available free of charge at Bailey Road Park, Bailey Middle School, and Hough High School, with complimentary shuttle service provided. Organizers also encourage attendees to walk, bike, or use rideshare services when possible.
A portion of event proceeds will benefit Lake Norman Wildlife, the event’s community partner. Presented by Novant Health and supported by numerous local sponsors, Symphony in the Park continues to be one of the most popular family-friendly events in Lake Norman each summer.
