Angels & Sparrows is now the recipient of a new E-transit refrigerated van and Level 2 charging station gifted to the local nonprofit organization through Whole Foods Market’s Nourishing Our Neighborhoods program to support picking up fresh food and redistributing to those in need. On June 23, both Angels & Sparrows staff and Whole Foods Market team members at the Whole Foods Market Lake Norman store will celebrate by filling the van to the brim with donated products, bound for community members experiencing food insecurity.
“This van represents more than a vehicle. It represents what is possible when organizations come together to care for their neighbors, creating greater opportunity, dignity, and access to nutritious food for families across our community,” said Brandi Jones, Executive Director of Angels & Sparrows. “We are grateful to Whole Foods Market for helping us expand our food rescue efforts, reduce waste, and reach more families with fresh, healthy food.”
“We’re thrilled to further support Angels & Sparrows food rescue efforts to nourish the greater Charlotte community,” said Sofia Winters, Community Giving Team Leader for Whole Foods Market. “This van will not only transport more rescued food to those in need but also help reduce food waste and emissions, creating lasting positive change for our community and environment.”
Whole Foods Market launched Nourishing Our Neighborhoods in September 2020 and has donated 99 refrigerated vans to food rescue partners to transport food to communities across the U.S., Canada and the U.K. These food rescue partners participate in the company’s Grocery Rescue Program – picking up food from their stores weekly and redistributing it to feed neighbors fresh, high-quality food as quickly as possible.
