A solemn display of American flags is covering the Town Center Lawn in Downtown Huntersville as the community marks the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001.

The Field of Honor® 9.11 Memorial is on display through September 16, offering residents across Huntersville and the Lake Norman area a place to pause, reflect and remember those who lost their lives in the attacks.

American flags are arranged in rows and columns across the lawn, creating a visual representation of the magnitude of loss experienced on September 11. The Stars and Stripes fly in tribute to the victims while also representing the unity and resilience that emerged in the aftermath of the attacks.

The memorial reflects on how a moment intended to divide the country instead brought Americans together. Twenty-five years later, the display uses the American flag as a symbol of solidarity, remembrance and the ability to overcome hardship.

Unlike a single-day ceremony, the Field of Honor gives community members several days to visit the memorial on their own time. The flags have been on display since September 2 and will remain on the Town Center Lawn through September 16.

With the 25th anniversary taking place this week, the Huntersville memorial provides a local place for the Lake Norman community to remember the lives lost and reflect on the significance of September 11.
