Holiday Light Tours Around Lake Norman: Where to See the Best Displays This Season

One of the best parts of the holiday season around Lake Norman is piling into the car, turning up the Christmas music, and cruising neighborhoods in search of the most festive light displays. This year, two local favorites are making it even more fun—with maps, friendly competition, and plenty of sparkle.

First up, Huntersville’s Best Lit House Tour, sponsored by Mike Hege Real Estate, is officially glowing. Submissions are in, voting is open, and the holiday magic is very real. Grab some cocoa, load up the tour map, and make a night of it as you explore homes across town that truly understood the assignment. From elegant classics to full-on winter wonderlands, this is one Lake Norman event that turns an ordinary drive into a festive adventure. Voting is open now through January 2, with winners announced January 6—a bright way to kick off the new year.
Tour map and voting details can be found through the Town of Huntersville.

Not to be outdone, Cornelius’ “Deck the House” Decorating Contest brings personality and playful competition to the season. Homeowners can enter in one of two categories:

  • Traditional, featuring garlands, reindeer, Santas, and timeless holiday charm

  • Griswold, inspired by Christmas Vacation and perfect for those who believe there’s no such thing as too many lights

Public voting runs December 12–21, with all participating homes lighting up nightly from 6–9 PM. Winners will be announced December 22, and the downloadable voting map makes it easy to plan your own holiday light tour.

Whether you prefer cozy classics or Clark Griswold-level commitment, these displays are a reminder of why Lake Norman shines so brightly during the holidays. So bundle up, hit the road, and enjoy one of the most cheerful traditions of the season.
