If you’re into true crime meets Southern scandal, your next Netflix binge just might feature your favorite downtown. That’s right—Mooresville is making a cameo in The Hunting Wives, the highly anticipated eight-part series premiering July 21 on Netflix.
Back in early April 2024, film crews rolled into Downtown Mooresville, quietly transforming Main Street into the fictional town of Maple Brook, Texas—and yes, it was every bit as dramatic as it sounds. While the Town of Mooresville’s official Facebook page played it cool and didn’t spill the beans, locals weren’t fooled. Photos of Texas flags, “Maple Brook” signs, and crews working along North Main Street started circulating fast—and people were quick to ID the project: “The Hunting Wives.”
Fans even spotted filming around Lake Norman and other parts of the area, adding to the buzz.
So, What’s It About?
Based on the best-selling novel by May Cobb, The Hunting Wives is a twisty, steamy thriller about Sophie—a woman who moves from the East Coast to small-town Texas and gets pulled into the orbit of the mysterious and magnetic Margo Banks. What starts as innocent girl crush territory quickly turns into obsession, betrayal, and murder.
Oh yes—it’s giving Southern charm meets Dateline episode.
The cast is stacked with serious star power:
Brittany Snow
Malin Åkerman
Dermot Mulroney
Chrissy Metz
Jaime Ray Newman, Katie Lowes, and George Ferrier
Mooresville as Maple Brook
The transformation of downtown was impressive—film trucks, camera crews, and catering services filled the block as D.E. Turner Hardware, Hampton’s, Dulcet & Delish, and more joined in on the cinematic magic. Even The Charles Mack Citizen Center became production headquarters for the day.
Additional scenes were filmed at St. Mark Lutheran Church off Fieldstone Road and around Sherrills Ford, adding even more local flavor to the storyline.
The Vibe?
Showrunner Rebecca Cutter calls it “a sexy, twisted, propulsive murder mystery” that doesn’t shy away from big themes like politics, marriage, power dynamics, and small-town secrets—all wrapped in what she calls “good soapy fun.”
Honestly? We’re in.
The Hunting Wives premieres July 21 on Netflix, and you better believe we’ll be watching with a glass of wine in hand and an eye out for every Mooresville moment.
Because this summer, the biggest drama on TV might just be happening on our very own Main Street.
