Twenty-five years after September 11, 2001, the Lake Norman Chamber of Commerce is bringing the community together to hear firsthand accounts from two people directly connected to that day.
On Friday, September 11, the Chamber will host Focus Friday: Remembering September 11, 2001 – 25 Years Later from 11:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. at the Lake Norman Chamber of Commerce in Cornelius.
The special Lunch & Learn will feature Winston Kelley, Executive Director of the NASCAR Hall of Fame, and Pat Jackson, a first responder in New York City on September 11, 2001.
Kelley was attending a Chamber of Commerce event in Washington, D.C., when the attacks occurred. During Focus Friday, he will reflect on where he was, what he experienced as the events unfolded and the lasting impact of that day.
Jackson will share his perspective as a first responder in New York City, including his memories of the crisis and the courage and sacrifice demonstrated by first responders and citizens.
The program is intended to commemorate the nearly 3,000 people who lost their lives while giving the Lake Norman community an opportunity to hear personal accounts of a defining moment in American history.
Lunch will be provided courtesy of Jimmy John’s of Lake Norman and Chick-fil-A Lake Norman. Novant Health – Huntersville Medical Center is the presenting sponsor of Focus Friday, with Cornelius Today and WSIC serving as media sponsors.
In-person attendance is limited to the first 25 registered participants, and advance registration is required.
