It was a day of celebration in Omaha, Nebraska on July 9 when Pharos Parenting’s Best Beginnings Director Susan White won the Parent Aide of the Year award at the National Exchange Club National Symposium.

 

This award, which honors the best in-home family support workers across the country, is given to one Exchange Parent Aide every year at the National Symposium in recognition of excellence in child abuse prevention.

 

“It was a wonderful experience to be at the national conference this year with members of our team as well as other Parent Aides from child abuse Centers throughout the country,” said Susan White. “We all work diligently every day to make a difference in our communities, and it was such an honor to be recognized with this award.”

 

The National Exchange Club made child abuse prevention their national project in 1979 and developed the Exchange Parent Aide home visitation model which has been scholarly-reviewed and implemented at accredited Exchange Club Centers across the country. Pharos Parenting is one of four Centers in North Carolina. Through the program, Parent Aides provide in-home coaching and training to at-risk families to break the cycle of child abuse.

 

In 2024, Pharos Parenting’s Pam Cloar also won the Parent Aide of the Year. Susan’s award means Pharos Parenting has two of the past three Parent Aides of the Year currently on their staff.

 

Since 1987, Pharos Parenting’s mission has been to build positive parenting skills through targeted education, in-home coaching, and supportive intervention programs. They are a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit located in Statesville, NC. They serve the parents and children of Iredell, Alexander, and North Mecklenburg counties.
