Lights, Canvas, Action: Statesville Blends Film & Art in One Night

If you’ve ever walked out of a movie and thought, “I wish I could frame that feeling,” Statesville has your vibe covered. On Wednesday, August 20, the Iredell Arts Council is throwing a free community event called Celebrating Film in Visual Arts, and it’s exactly what it sounds like—a mash-up of cinema magic and gallery-worthy masterpieces.

From 5:30–7:00 PM, 203 S Meeting Street turns into the spot where movie moments meet paintbrush strokes. Expect a juried exhibition, a community reception, and award announcements (because what’s an art-meets-film party without a little friendly competition?). Prizes are being served up by the Iredell Arts Council and Speedball Art—so you know this isn’t your average Wednesday night hangout.

Executive Director Sydney Koppelmeyer says it best: “This exhibit allows us to welcome new artists while celebrating the crossover between film and visual arts.” Translation: come see how artists capture the soul of cinema without a single reel of film rolling.

The exhibit doesn’t disappear after opening night, either. It sticks around through the Full Bloom Film Festival (September 11–13, 2025), so you can binge both indie flicks and inspired artwork all in the same weekend.
