Ten years of steps are adding up to meaningful change in the Charlotte community.

The Canopy Housing Foundation will celebrate the 10th Annual Strides for Shelter 5K on Saturday, October 17, at McAlpine Creek Park in Charlotte. The event brings runners, walkers and community supporters together around a shared goal of addressing housing needs in the region.

Strides for Shelter is presented by the Canopy Housing Foundation, the charitable arm of the Canopy Realtor® Association. The foundation works to promote affordable homeownership, fund housing opportunities and encourage volunteerism and philanthropy among more than 14,000 Realtor® members.

This year’s beneficiary is Crisis Assistance Ministry, which supports Mecklenburg County families experiencing financial crisis. Proceeds from the 2026 race will help transform the organization’s Free Store, including improvements to its organization, layout and flow so families can more easily access clothing, shoes and household essentials.

The anniversary also marks a significant milestone for the event. Over its first nine years, Canopy Housing Foundation donated more than $242,000 to nine beneficiary organizations addressing the needs of unhoused neighbors.

Past beneficiary organizations are also being invited back to celebrate the milestone and can use promo code PB2026 for 10% off race registration.
