Run, Walk, or Waddle — Just Don’t Miss It!
Before the turkey hits the oven and the football kicks off, there’s one Lake Norman tradition that brings everyone together — the Thanksgiving Morning Trot in Birkdale Village. Now in its 14th year, this family-favorite event supports Angels & Sparrows, a local nonprofit serving families facing food insecurity — and it’s easily the most joyful jog of the year.
📍 Fleet Feet Sports, Birkdale Village
🕗 Music starts at 7 AM | Trot kicks off at 8 AM sharp
Not Your Average 5K
This isn’t the type of run where you’ll find serious runners with stopwatches (though Aunt Karen might bring one). The Thanksgiving Morning Trot is all about fun — whether you’re walking, jogging, stroller-rolling, or coffee-sipping your way through.
Expect:
🎶 Live music
☕ Coffee and hot chocolate
🍩 Donuts (because balance)
🐾 Dogs, strollers, and walkers all welcome
Registration is just $25, and kids under 6 trot for free. The event is untimed — but if you’re feeling competitive, there will be a clock for bragging rights at dinner.
A Race That Gives Back
Every step you take helps support Angels & Sparrows, an organization dedicated to feeding and empowering local families in need. So yes, that post-run donut is officially guilt-free.

🚗 Pro tip: Park in the movie theater lot and bring your camera — the costumes, tutus, and turkey hats never disappoint.
Make It a Turkey Day Tradition
Whether you’re in it for the exercise, the cause, or the coffee, this event captures the spirit of Lake Norman perfectly: community, connection, and a whole lot of fun before the feast.
