Freedom Hill: Where Service Meets Home
On a day devoted to honoring our nation’s heroes, Mooresville came together for a groundbreaking that means far more than dirt and shovels — it means hope.
In partnership with Building Homes for Heroes, Lowe’s, and the Town of Mooresville, the new Freedom Hill community officially broke ground on Veterans Day. This first-of-its-kind neighborhood will provide up to 15 mortgage-free homes for veterans and first responders — a place designed not just for living, but for healing, stability, and belonging.
“This village embodies what our mission has always been about: restoring hope, stability, and independence for our nation’s heroes,” said Andy Pujol, Founder and CEO of Building Homes for Heroes. “It’s more than a neighborhood — it’s a promise kept.”
The Town of Mooresville donated the land, while Lowe’s and its customers — through their Round-Up for Charity campaign — helped make the dream possible. Together, they’re turning a bold idea into a tangible reality: a community built by and for those who’ve served.
Freedom Hill will also provide wraparound support services, including financial guidance, health resources, and emergency assistance — ensuring that veterans and their families have the tools and care they need long after move-in day.
As Mayor Chris Carney shared, “This community will be a generational tribute to the courage and selflessness of our veterans from all the citizens of our great town.”
The groundbreaking ceremony followed Mooresville’s Veterans Day Parade and featured a symbolic moment: former Special Forces parachutists descending onto the site before community leaders turned the first soil. Construction is expected to begin in 2026, marking a new chapter for veteran housing in North Carolina — and setting a national example of what’s possible when purpose meets partnership.
Freedom Hill isn’t just a housing project — it’s a legacy of gratitude, built right in the heart of Mooresville.
